How Community-Up is Leading the Charge for Housing Equity in Southeast Michigan
Ann Arbor Housing Commission and Community-Up Partnership
In 2023, Community-Up and the Ann Arbor Housing Commission (AAHC) launched a transformational partnership designed to break cycles of poverty and expand homeownership opportunities for Section 8 voucher recipients.
This collaborative model combines housing expertise, financial literacy, 1:1 coaching, credit education, and structured support to prepare families for long-term financial independence. Through education, workshops, FSS engagement, and personalized financial plans, the program empowers residents to build strong money habits, stabilize income, and move toward sustainable homeownership.
The results over three program years (2023–2025) demonstrate a powerful, replicable model of mobility and wealth-building. Families who once believed homeownership was out of reach are now increasing their earnings, building savings, improving their credit, and purchasing homes that will benefit their families for generations.
